  • Sea sponges are multi-celled organisms harvested from the floor of the sea/ocean. They are highly absorbent, create a luxurious lather, have a soft texture, and are suitable for the most sensitive skin. Natural sponges are more durable and last much longer than synthetic ones, for up to10 years!

The sea sponge is antibacterial and hypo-allergenic by nature! It has enzymes that inhibit the growth of mold, mildew, and bacteria. It is a natural, renewable and biodegradable alternative to synthetic sponges.

The Fine Silk is dense with a soft, velvety texture that gently exfoliates the skin. Ideal for sensitive baby skin, or for face wash, applying /removing make up. If well maintained, it lasts up to 10 years.

*Although they lack a brain, have no true tissues, no muscles, no internal organs, no digestive, nervous, or even circulatory system, sea sponges are classified as animals, therefore they are NOT VEGAN. They contain animal cells, carry out cellular respiration typical of animals, and survive by filtering water and eating the bacteria and microscopic organisms found there.

  • Rinse your sponge thoroughly after each use with clean water, until all the foam/soap comes off. Squeeze out the excess water from the sponge, then place it in a dry area, and allow it to dry naturally. Ideally hang it from its rope, if it has one.

It is advisable to disinfect natural sponges on a regular basis, usually every 2-3 months, if used daily:

    1. Rinse the natural sponge under cold running water.

    2. Soak the sponge in a bowl filled with 2 tablespoons of vinegar to 1L of water. Leave to soak for 2-3 hours.

    3. Remove from the bowl and squeeze to remove excess liquid.

    4. Set out to dry on a clean surface.

    5. Reuse, your sponge should now be as good as new.

Never put it in the dryer, microwave, boiling water, in bleach, or twist/pull at it. If it becomes a bit ragged on the edges, just trim off any loose pieces.
